It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of John Ruben Malcolm, on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, age of 56, at his home surrounded by his family in Florence.
Born in New Glasgow on July 18, 1969. He was the son of the late Johnny Hawkins and Audrey Malcolm of French River.
John is survived by his partner Sheila Patey, son John Eric Malcolm, sister Ann Simpson, cousin Neila Malcolm and grandsons Eric and Julian.
John was a very giving and generous person. He would think nothing of stopping to help strangers in need. He would help others in the family with home renovations and repairs. He loved to bake and cook meals. He was a master at baking pies, butter tarts, homemade bread and cinnamon rolls that would remind you of home. He was fondly remembered for his smile that would light up a room. His family and friends were important to him and he cherished them. He worked as a tile setter and was respected for the quality of his work by many. John will be missed but never forgotten.
Visitation will take place on Friday, February 27, from 1-3 pm in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. A funeral service will follow at 3pm in the Funeral Home Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to the family by leaving a message on the tribute wall at www.wjdooley.com
