Hughie Moore Obituary

After a life well lived, Hughie Moore left this world on February 22, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love and laughter. Born in Sydney Mines on March 11, 1944, he was the son of the late Stanley and Rhodena (MacMullin) Moore of Sydney Mines.

Hughie is survived by his loving wife, Bernice (Blagdon) Moore, sons Neil (Kimberly) and Thomas (Buffy). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Connor (Samantha), Liam, Jacob and Jesse, great grandchildren River and Ridge. He also leaves behind sisters, Rodena, Mary and brother Bernie.

Besides his parents, Hughie is predeceased by his brothers, John, Stanley and Michael. He was also predeceased by a very special aunt, Christina MacMullin.

Hughie started a career in upholstery in Ontario eventually moving home to Cape Breton to plant roots and open his own business, Professional Upholstery, which he ran for more than 40 years. His work included everything from boats, antique vehicles, sleighs that were award winning, as well household furniture. Hughie took pride in every job he did from the smallest to even the furniture he completed for Beinn Bhreagh, Alexander Graham Bell’s Baddeck home. Once he welcomed retirement, he was able to enjoy his love for fishing, being on the water and most importantly, passing this love on to his four grandsons. He also had a passion for boxing. From the legends of the past to the rising stars, he knew every story behind the gloves. Hughie found pleasure in life’s simple things such as, vegetable gardening, picking blueberries and antiquing. He was a ferocious reader, seeker of knowledge and loved a good political debate. Most of all he loved that his and Bernice’s legacy of love kept growing with the arrival of his great grandchildren.
