Donna Marie Francis

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our sister and beloved aunt, Donna Marie Francis, on January 31, 2026, at the age of 73.

Donna was born in North Sydney, Cape Breton, on October 29, 1952. She relocated to Halifax to attend Dalhousie University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree. After her graduation, Donna remained in Halifax, where she enjoyed a twenty-nine-year career employed with Air Canada. She would eventually relocate to Elmsdale to be closer to her work.

In her younger years Donna loved to travel, creating lasting memories and enjoyed sharing in her adventures. She had a love of gardening, cooking and playing cards.

Donna was a past volunteer, chaperone and fundraiser with Air Canada’s Dreams Take Flight program.

Donna was a very proud aunt to Erin, Sarah, Brian, Jordan, Colin, Alex and great aunt to Jonah, Lilian, Max, Kay and Amelia.

Donna was predeceased by her brother Melvin and her parents, George and Mamie Francis, who were born in Stones Cove, NL. Donna was proud of her parents’ Newfoundland roots, and cherished her childhood memories of visits there. As an adult, Newfoundland held a special place in her heart as she enjoyed continued visits there with her relatives.

Donna is survived by sisters Elaine (Mike) Wilkie, Heather (Ron) Albert and brother Paul (Patricia) Francis.

Cremation has taken place. There will be a memorial service held on Tuesday, February 10, at 2:00 pm, at the Ettinger Funeral Home in Shubenacadie. A private burial service will take place at a later date in Cape Breton. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Donna’s memory can be made to the Caring & Sharing food bank, Elmsdale, or a branch of your local food bank.
