Beverley Nicholson Obituary

It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Beverly “Jane” Nicholson, on January 28, 2026. Jane died peacefully at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital following a brief battle with dementia.

Born on April 26, 1944, Jane lived a life marked by quiet dedication, kindness, love, and selflessness. In her younger years, she enjoyed a good game of golf and figure skating, interests that reflected her love of activity and grace. She spent 32 years working in Payroll at the Northside General Hospital, where she was known for her strong work ethic and commitment to those she served. After her retirement, Jane continued to work for several years at Steele’s Monuments, remaining active and engaged in her community.

Jane never married, choosing instead to remain at home to lovingly care for her parents, a role she fulfilled with devotion and grace. She was also a longtime, devoted member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, attending most weeks when she was able.

Jane was predeceased by her parents Neil J. and Marjorie A. (Parsons) Nicholson; brothers Bill and Rick Nicholson; her sisters Judy Murphy and Catherine Monchuk. Jane was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Jane is lovingly remembered by her many nieces and nephews: Dennis (Linda) Monchuk, Judy (Chris Welner) Monchuk, Janie (Keith) MacKinnon, Shane (Laurie) Goudie, Kelly (Darren) Howie, Jennifer Nicholson, Mary-Beth Nicholson, Jessica (Chad Nippard) Nicholson, and Gemma (Steve Martin) Nicholson; her sisters-in-law Pam Nicholson and Mary-Lou Nicholson; her special friends Kay Batherson and Phyllis Jackman and her cousin Marie Alexis, who always kept in touch and lovingly checked up on Aunt Jane.

Special thanks are extended to her neighbors on both King Street and Victoria Street for always watching out for her, and to Dr. Salah, Dr. Ignacio, and the compassionate staff of 4 West at the Northside General Hospital for their care and kindness.

Jane will be remembered for her quiet strength, her deep sense of family, her faith, and the care she showed to those around her. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.

A funeral and burial service will take place at a later date with arrangements under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. Donations in Jane’s memory may be made to the Diabetes Association, Heart and Stroke Foundation, St. Joseph Parish in North Sydney, or a charity of one’s choice.  Online condolences can be left for the family on the tribute wall of the obituary.
